UNIQUE FEATURES: The I-5 Gateway Project is the culmination of the decade-long widening of the I-5 freeway through Orange County.
PROJECT VALUE: $206 million
PROJECT DESCRIPTION:
The project consists of adding one High Occupancy Vehicle (HOV) lane and one general purpose lane in each direction, constructing auxiliary lanes and entrance and exit ramps including the reconstruction of four bridge structures and one structure to be constructed high and lowered into position as well as widening existing bridges over flood control channels, multiple retaining walls and soundwalls. This Project is anticipated to be completed in 2010.
The I-5 Gateway Project will address congestion along one of the busiest interstate routes in Southern California. The I-5 corridor through Buena Park encounters significant traffic congestion as the current traffic capacity for the existing lanes has been exceeded.
Project includes: Railroad reconstruction, Utility relacation, Bridge structures – Consists of reconstruction of overcrossings at Stanton Avenue, Beach Boulevard and Western Avenue and Artesia Boulevard Undercrossing, Beach Boulevard Overcrossing – CIP / PS Concrete Box Girder bridge with two spans and over 77 meters of length and approximately 44 meters wide, Stanton Overcrossing – CIP/ PS Concrete Box Girder bridge with two spans totaling 76.5 meters, Western Overcrossing – CIP/ PS Concrete Box Girder bridge with two spans totaling 87 meters and 26 meters wide with a sidewalk on each side, Artesia Boulevard Northbound On-Ramp Undercrossing – CIP / PS Concrete Box Girder Structure which is 71 meters long and 12 meters wide supported on a two column bent, footings and Class 900 CISS piles, Artesia Boulevard Undercrossing Replacement–Widened and reconstructed under freeway traffic a CIP / PS Concrete Box Girders spanning over 64 meters along I-5.
