Hopland Roundabout

The Hopland Roundabout was built to address a safety issue at a dangerous corner by transforming the existing three-legged (T) intersection at SR-175 and Old River Road to a modern single-lane lighted roundabout. The improvements enhanced operational performance of the intersection, improved safety for the traveling public and pedestrians, and services as an aesthetic gateway to the community. The Hopland Roundabout was not only a safety project but also a landmark project for Caltrans. This was the first roundabout designed by the Department and the first roundabout constructed in Mendocino County. This roundabout provides traffic calming, resulting in reduced speeds and provides a safe place for large trucks to turn around.

CALTROP provided assistant resident engineering, inspection, materials testing and office engineering services on the project.  The CALTROP Team found solutions to some unusual challenges and completed this project on time and within budget.
